Dear Readers,
It’s me, Alex! With a quick update.
A lot has changed in my life recently. I quit my job in the corporate world and sold my house at the beginning of March.
I feel blessed enough to retire from a corporate job in my early forties, because it now allows me to pursue my passion of writing and publishing books full time.
And I'm currently writing you this message from the hills of Fraijanes, Alajuela, Costa Rica. It's quite beautiful here. Peaceful.
I’m temporarily renting a big 2-story, 4-bedroom house in a small, but secure village. There are security guards roaming the place 24/7 so I'll stay safe in a foreign country, and the views are incredible.
As I look out the windows right now, I see puffy white clouds rolling across a baby blue sky. You could almost pluck them from the sky with your fingertips. In the backdrop, there are green rolling hills everywhere.
I love this change of scenery. It’s inspiring to be this close to nature.
View out the front of my rented house in Costa Rica
Because if you didn't know before, I lived most of my life in Phoenix, Arizona. Which is known for its arid desert landscape and little rain.
But here in Costa Rica, even in the hills, it rains almost every day. Usually in the afternoon. Sometimes in the morning. Typically light rainfall.
The power to my rented house cut out once so far, during a heavier storm. But I managed. I stayed indoors and didn’t get wet.
At this point, you might be thinking, “Why are you there? Why Costa Rica?”
Good question! I’m here in Costa Rica for a very important reason.
But you’ll have to wait until the next update. Sound good?
I just wanted to drop you a quick note, so you didn’t forget about me. Because I haven’t forgotten about you.
And with that said, since you're on my email list, I'm starting what I hope to be a weekly newsletter called, Postcards From Afar.
I'll document my travels and adventures through the newsletter and share with you my thoughts on poetry, writing and the world.
I really want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at one poet's life as I live the last several decades of my life. You can think of it as little notes from Alex.
So until next time, take care. Stay healthy and be safe!
Yours truly,
Alex
And no secret telling here either! 🤐
Great idea with the postcards! I’ll be keeping up with you for sure! 😊
